Fate/Apocrypha new trailer with voice actors and release date

If three years has seemed like too much a hiatus for the Fate series to anyone, Type Moon has responded in 2017 with (at least) three prospective new shows this year. Alongside ufotable’s Fate/Stay Night: Heaven Feel and Shaft’s Fate/Extra Last Encore, we’ve got A-1 Pictures’ Fate Apocrypha. As many of you will know, I’m a big fan of the Fate franchise (don’t worry, I won’t subject you to another month like this one though…) so all of this is big news.

On Sunday afternoon we got the second trailer for Apocrypha:

I don’t know a whole lot about the light novels, but the basic premise seems to be that a Great Holy Grail War takes place between to opposing mage factions, Red and Black in a world that is parallel to that of Stay Night. There are lots of characters that we’ve never met before so I’m hoping A-1 Pictures will have forked out to gives us 24 episodes. Also… there’s a servant called Shirou Kotomine?! I want a family tree of both worlds now.

Back to the studio though, from both of the trailers we’ve had so far, the art and animation style seems to be pretty run of the mill for A-1, which is a big departure from what we’ve been treated to by ufotable over the past few years with Fate/Zero and Unlimited Blade Works, but honestly I’m completely willing to forget about it as long as they do a good adaptation of the novels.

At the Fate project special in Tokyo they also announced that the series will start airing on July 7th this year. We also got a list of cast members for several of the new characters: lead character Sieg is being voice by Natsune Hanae who I thought did a great job as Kousei in Your Lie in April: I’m interested to see what he can to do with a show that’s going to be more action heavy. Most excitingly at the moment is the casting of Maaya Sakamoto as Ruler – I’m currently watching the Kara no Kyoukai films where she voiced the lead character Shiki really well! She also voiced Kusanagi in Ghost in the Shell and Shinobu in the Monogatari series – a lot of acting behind her, she should bring a lot to the role.

A full list of the announced cast members can be found here.

I’m really looking forward to all of the Fate offerings this year and hoping that Apocrypha gets things off to a good start in the summer.

Thanks for reading 😀
